Office Tables
Coffee and side table made from ply and steel
Summary
After finishing a cupboard and sideboard for my office I decided I wanted a unique coffee table and side-table.To continue the theme of practicing my woodwork and metalwork skills I opted to make these out of 18mm ply and steel. To add interest I added a large steel disk, (a cnc off-cut), into the center of the coffee table.
Ply and Steel Coffee Table
For the coffee table I used 2 layers of 18mm ply back to back, sanding the sides down to a very fine grit, filling them, and oiling the whole thing with Osmo hard wax oil.
To make the table more interesting I used a router to cut away a circular inset to inlay a large steel disk (cnc off-cut). This worked well and gives a mix of textures to the piece.
I welded together 4 legs using 10mm steel box section, spray painting them black. In the middle of the square feet of the legs I inlay 4 pieces of oak to connect the aesthetic from the top to the feet.

Using the same method I then built a small side table to go next to the sofa!
