Office Cupboard

Mosaic topped ply cupboard

Share:

Summary

As I built out my office I wanted to practice my carpentry skills and build some unique furniture which suited the room. The first thing I made was this cupboard.

The most interesting part of this build was the cupboard top, which I made from a mosaic of plywood, ash, and Stinkwood!

Lessons learned

I’ve been doing various forms of carpentry and making for years. Mostly this has been larger things such as outbuildings. What struck me is how I benefit from practicing the finer woodworking skills which are needed to make high quality furniture. Overall it went okay, but in some ways I wasn’t prepared or tooled up to finish this with the precision I’d have liked.

  • I want to keep working on increasing my precision in woodwork
  • There’s a world of hinges out there, some suck
  • My workshop could do with cleaner flatter surfaces, and running multiple projects of varying types at once (welding/woodwork e.g.) is not ideal
