Electric ATV Mower

Summary

Having acres of land requires certain tools. If you’re not keeping animals, the grass (and worse, brambles!) can get out of hand. The usual tools used for this are tractor & topper, or a pull-along quad/atv mower. There are various designs in both of these cases, with a flail petrol atv mower being the common smallholding option for those without a tractor (and PTO).

With this project I wanted to see what you could build to cut the grass with electric power, for less than the price of a petrol-powered flail mower.

I sourced second hand a BMW i3 EV battery cell, a forklift truck motor, and a golf-cart control unit. This project had to be put on pause as other projects swamped it, but I’m hopeful I’ll get back to finishing it soon.
