Course and Tools to teach Software Engineers to market their products

Share:

Summary

Once back from my sabbatical I was looking for a new place to have an impact. Reading lots and lots of my peers posts and tweets I noticed that there was a common thread of talented software engineers who were making cool stuff but struggled hard when it came to marketing it. Given my background, blending engineering and business, I decided to capture everything I’ve learned, (and continue to learn), about marketing software which might be useful to other ‘craft’ software engineers.

Why write a course?

As part of my year of experiments (in 2024, after coming back from a year of sabbatical), I started to explore common problems ailing my peers.

Much reading and discussion later, it seemed the most impactful place I might work would be on sharing how I marketing the software I made. It’s a common thing amongst us developers – to be great at building product, but stop before we hit the finish line when it becomes marketing work (out of our comfort zone).

Having gone through this process a few times as a founder, I feel like I have value to add to the topic. Hence BuildProfit.io, (which’ll also have tools as well as the course).

Personal meaning

The more I work on this project the more I feel I’m getting a step closer toward understanding my ikigai, and helping other fledgling small businesses and entrepreneurial engineers makes me feel like theres a slight version of the Arts and Crafts movement happening in software. If anything this year of experiments is teaching me, it’s that I’m happiest helping those who have the imagination and intent, but are only just starting out.

What’s the status of BuildProfit? I want to learn!

That’s great you’re excited by the idea. But for now, this project is paused. Build Profit was my first small bet of 2024, and I’m not giving up on it yet. The course is mostly complete, but currently I’m gathering and refining; using the protocols and advice in the course to launch other small bets. I have to make sure what I’m providing you still works in 2024, and to hold off delivering until it’s A game stuff.

Let’s make mad sh*t.

I’ve made a lot of things in my life, and I intend to make a lot more. My biggest goal is to make a good and happy life.
